Hello Candle Lovers! Want to know how to burn and extinguish candles?
How to burn a SSSC candle for its longevity...
Inside each of my candles, I place a small "memory burn" note. It explains how to prevent tunneling in your new candle. It reads:
To prevent “tunneling”, you must conduct a “memory burn” the first time your candle is lit. This means allowing the candle to burn for approximately 2 hours OR until there is a wax pool at least 1/4” deep across the entire diameter. Subsequent burns should last long enough to reach entire diameter, but do not have to be as deep. Monitor the burn and keep wicks trimmed 1/4” to 3/8”.

So, light the candle in a safe place according to safety label on it's base and follow the directions for the memory burn.
Now, how to properly extinguish a SSSC container candle...

There are 3 ways...
Blow it out
Use a candle snuffer, or
Place the candle lid back onto the jar.
Issues with these 3 methods and which one I prefer...
Method 1, no problems with this one as long as the candle has been burning in a safe place and you don't move it until it has completely cooled.
Method 2, a candle snuffer is my preferred method
Method 3, this is my least preferred method because a) it will soot the inside of the candle lid and if you've not been properly keeping the wick trimmed, and b) it will blacken the entire inside of the jar from the remaining wax level up to the lid. This creates a decidely unattractive candle, negating the entire reasoning for having a beautiful product in your home in the first place.
Thanks for reading and have a Happy SSSC Day!
